AEI
Continuing Education Committee
The AEI
continuing education committee is looking for new members. The
committee is involved in arranging educational activities for the
AEI community and the building community. These activities include
seminars, webinars, symposiums, workshops, etc. The subjects of
these activities are chosen to meet current and future interests of
both communities. The committee also coordinates its activities with
other groups, both within AEI and other similar professional
organizations outside AEI. The committee members will be involved in
identifying potential continuing educational activities, participate
in organizing such activities, and out-reaching efforts to ensure
the success of educational activities.
Interested potential members can contact Dr. Mohammed
M. Ettouney at ettouney@wai.com, or Jennifer Balsey at jbalsley@asce.org.

ATC
& SEI Advances in Hurricane Engineering - Learning from Our
Past
October
24-26, 2012, Miami, FL

According to the National Hurricane Center, Hurricane Andrew
was the costliest Atlantic hurricane in U.S. history prior to
Hurricane Katrina in 2005. It has been 20 years since Andrew plowed
through Florida and Louisiana in August 1992, and what have we
learned since? Significant advances in wind and flood design for
buildings and other structures, as well as evolutions in coastal
engineering, have been made by engineers, architects, building
officials, and researchers. If you have a vested interest in
hurricane engineering, you are invited to join us in building an
exciting program.
Advances in Hurricane Engineering: Learning from our
past will be held on Oct.
24-26, 2012 in Miami and conference organizers are currently
accepting abstracts for individual presentations and proposals for
complete sessions. All
proposals are due Sept. 9, 2011.

innovative thinking in adaptive use of redundant train stations to
scientific study of and prescriptions for conserving specialized
19th century construction techniques. The locales of the topics are
wide ranging as well: from the outer boroughs of New York City to
South Louisiana and pueblos in the American Southwest.

a realistic plan for the dissemination of research and/or final work
product
• The project has a clear and realistic goals,
timeframe, work plan, and budget
