Members in the News
AEI members are continually making their mark in the architectural engineering industry. From building design and security to AE educational issues our members continue to set new standards throughout the field. One prime model of our exemplary members is President-Elect Mohammed Ettouney, Ph.D., P.E., a principal at Weidlinger Associates, a leading New York-based structural engineering design firm. Ettouney was quoted several times in an article that appeared in the June 22, 2005 edition of the New York Times. . . Report on Multi-Family Housing Access Forum Ernest W. Parti, Ph.D., P.E. Representatives of AEI were invited to attend a special forum on multi-family housing access, sponsored by the U.S Department of Justice – Civil Rights Division, that was held at the Westfields Marriott Conference Center in Chantilly, Virginia on May 15, 2005. Representing AEI at the forum were AEI’s new Director, Amar Chaker and Ernie Parti, the Chair of AEI’s Task Committee on Facilities for the Aging (TCFA). The forum covered several important topics relevant to the accessibility for disabled people of residential housing whatever their disabling cause, be it from an accident, illness or aging. . .

Building Security Symposium By: Mohammed Ettouney, Ph.D., P.E. The Architectural Engineering Institute's Committee on Mitigation of Effects of Terrorism and the Continuing Education Committee organized a two-day symposium on March 10-11, 2005, in New York City on the subject of Building Security. The symposium addressed important aspects of building security from Architectural and Engineering viewpoints. Among the subjects that were presented are blast, progressive collapse, building envelope, Architectural considerations, Mechanical/Electrical redundancy issues as well as site planning of the whole building site. The Symposium stressed on basic principles as well as the state of the art of different mitigation needs and techniques. In addition, the Symposium highlighted the needs for multidisciplinary approach to building security (see below figure). It was argued by the presenters that multidisciplinary approach to building security has the potential of reducing costs, while maintaining or increasing safety levels. The presenters included experts in the different fields of building security. The Event was co-sponsored by The Architectural Engineering Institute (AEI) of ASCE and the Ornamental Metal Institute of New York.
